How to Change Your PAN Address Online via Protean

Step 1: Go to the Official Portal

You first need to get to the official Protean site. On the homepage, find and click the link ‘Address/Mobile number/Email ID update in PAN’.

Step 2: Fill In the Application Form

Now fill the Online PAN application form.

  • From the ‘Select PAN Application Type’ dropdown, pick ‘Changes or Correction in existing PAN data’.
  • Select the applicable applicant category, which in most cases will be ‘individual’.
  • Enter your PAN number, full name, date of birth, mobile number, and email address. Confirm your Indian citizenship, and check the box that confirms your consent to proceed.
  • Complete the Captcha verification and click ‘Submit’.

After submitting, you’ll receive a token number by email. Keep this token to continue your application later if needed.

Step 3: Confirm Document Submission Method

The system will then present three options for submission of the application and documents.

  • e-KYC Authentication (Fastest Method): This is paperless and uses your Aadhaar to verify the address, photograph, and signature instantly.
  • e-Sign (Scan and Upload Images): This gives you the option of manually filling the form and then uploading the scanned copies of your documents.
  • Physical Document Submission: With this option, you fill out the form online, print it, and post the physical copies to the designated processing centre.

Additionally, the system will ask if you need a new physical copy of the updated PAN card; if you do, select yes. Nominal charges will be applicable.

Step 4: Enter the New Address Details

If your address is different from the one on your Aadhaar, untick the box that automatically fills in the Aadhaar address. Then enter all required address details, including flat number, building name, street, area, city, state, and the correct PIN code.

Step 5: Upload Supporting Documents

Upload a scan of the required documents, making sure each file is under 300 KB. If you choose physical submission, send self-attested photocopies of the documents.

Step 6: Make Payment and Submit the Application

The last step is to pay the processing fee and submit your application. The fee is about INR 102 for a physical card or INR 66 for an e-PAN. You can pay via net banking, debit or credit card, UPI, or other available options. After payment, a 15-digit acknowledgement number will appear on your screen; note it down or print it for your records.

Step 7: Track Your Application

You can visit the tracking section on the website to view the status of your request for changing the PAN address. Enter the 15-digit acknowledgement number, and you will see the current status.
